Necros grins and says, "I got bored so I whipped this little bit up as I went along...no negative critisism or ye get to learn how I earned that dragonmage part of my sig file." ;)
The dark obsidion eyelids opened, reveling the glowing red orbs beneath and below that a snout opened in a yawn as the dragon slowly awoke, muttering softly to himself. He stretched slowly and shifted into a bipedal form, flicking his wings and tail slightly as he help out a clawed hand, a longsword in a battered, rune bedecked sheath appearing in his claws. He chuckled as he belted the blade on and said softly to himself, "Ye know...they never even question my nature once....they all buy the 'harmless old sage' bit. Ohh, well, all the better. Make my life that much more peacful." He raised his head slowly and sniffed at the air slowly, growling out, "Who would be playing with THAT!"
Miles away a small crystal dragon stood on a mountain top, up on hindlegs, tail could around himself, wings halfspread for balance. Working magic in the quiet, understated way of dragons. A small rift of all colors and none slowly opening before him...
The obsidian dragon snarled and whispers a string of long, twisting words. his whole form being whisked to the source of the ancient magic he felt stiring across the void to open a gateway...
The small crystal dragon blinked slowly and grined, saying, "I TOLD him I could do it. That's what he gets for saying I bungled everything." He blinked again and says, "What the..." just as the obsidian dragon appeared behind him, a silent snarl on his snout. The crystal dragon looked on in horror as a huge, hulking, man-like shape slowly steped out of his portal. The obsidian dragon sighed, his anger fading away suddenly as he said,
"Twinkle...ye summoned this here with that gate. Ye help me sent it back or kill it." The crystal dragon noded slowly and says, "I...I'm sorry...I..." The obsidian dragon shook his head and says, "Worry about that latter..." The huge manshape just sat there, watching them. The grass around its 'feet' withered and died the minute it stepped near it. The obsidian dragon sighed wearily and says, "Dread." and the huge manshape chuckled a hollow sound, saying, "So, you know of my kind little creature?" The obsidian dragon noded slowly and drew his sword, blue un-flames flairing over the blade as it cleared the rune covered sheath, a chill filling the air, the warmth in the clearing going to feed the un-flames...something almost as dark as the creture before the two dragons. He stepped forward slowly, sword coming up as he said calmly, "I am Necros Vanshoon. Ye and your kind know my name by now I should think." The Dread chuckled and says, "That one? The 'Great Foe' as those pathetic fools so name you? Well, then I shall enjoy handing what is left to you over to the Lord." The obsidian dragon sighed once more, a weary, haunted look crossing his snout for an instant. The dread lept forward, one of its 'arms' swinging for the dragon. He snarled and swung his sword up and around, the dark arm striking his blade, life draining blackness and soul stealing un-flame clashing and striving even as the wielders of said powers strove to overmatch the other.
Twinkle watched this with growing horror, slowly backing away, his mind racing in circles as he tried to recall all of the lore he could involving the Dreads. He grinned suddenly as he recalled a spell that just might work. Standing up on his hindlegs he began weaving his foreclaws in intricate gestures, speaking softly hissing words and ending his spell by slaming his tail against the ground and pointing at the Dread, a bolt of green energy streaking towards it.
He sensed a build up of mage energies and could only hope Twinkle had a good idea, because he was a wee bit to busy warding off blows to spell cast, all of his training in Myth Drannor was being tested by this creature. He chuckled coldly as he saw the green bolt and lep back, roaring in triumph as the creature doubled over when the bolt struck, springing forward to strike at it with his sword.
Twinkle grinned as Necros sprang forward, thinking, "That wasn't so...EPP!" The Dread suddenly straightened, pointing at Necros and speaking the final words of a spell, a black bolt of power slamming full into the obsidian dragons chest, flinging him back, his body smoking as it flew through the air. Twinkle snarled in rare rage and growled through a quick incantation, his whole form sparkling with summoned power that suddenly sprang to strike the creature as he turned his will to the task.
"Burning...Pain...Crystal...Dared...Death..." Over and over again, the only thoughts running through its head as it fought the burning power cunjured by the little dragon, its mind trying to grasp at its fading powers to strike back at the source of its pain...
He realized this was what Necros had spoken to him of, that one moment in the use of magic where you feel as if your could just reach out and grab the world and it would love you for your glorious might. He began to slowly walk toward the Dread, laughing softly at the pure thrill of the raw power he was channeling. *BOOOOM* "Blue sky? No Dread...No spell...What's going on?" Then he hit the ground...then came the pain...and finally, blessed darkness stole over him...a darkness that would never end.
Something was standing over him...he was safe though...nothing could get through the ColdFire shield that he had woven in his last seconds before the ground had rushed up to meet him far to fast. Then he felt the Dread's power, clawing at his weak shield, almost shattering it. He popped his eyes open, groaning as pain lanced through him, to find he was staring straight into a FEW annoyed Dread, the remnants of some spell of Twinkles and some counterspell it had cast lingering around it...
The Dread hurt. It wanted to heal. To do that it needed life energies, but the crystal had died when the blast from its counter spell had hurled it off the mountain, so that left the other...the 'Great Foe' as the elders called him. The fools. He was nothing.
He shuddered as he fought off another attack at his weakening shield of ColdFire and knew he had to do...something...but what? His sword was buried to the hilt where it had landed when he lost his grib, so that was out...what then? Another attack, his shield dangerously close to shattering and he sighed, hoping none of the other dragons ever found out about this...he would hate to have to run from another world because his nature had been discovered...they never seemed to care that he didn't WANT to hurt folks. He was a monster, he must die. That simple, the biased and pig headed. He stood up, his shield growing stronger by the second as mage energies gathered around him like a well trained dog coming to heel at its masters command. He laughed coldly and threw his claws skyward, a pure column of ColdFire arching skywark, clouds rolling in from the horizon.
"What? Where is he getting such power from? No matter..." the Dread struck the shield with a huge blow, trying to shatter...Not that such a tactic would ever work against one of the last archmages of Myth Drannor.
He bowed his head, the raised his snout skyward to shout out, "Lightning, arak skard shavnar! Traks frolith neith!" A low rumble coming from the clouds, then without any more warning bolt after bolt struck the Dread in a barrage that left the air crackling with spent power.
"PAIN!!!" he must stop this, get to the portal...kill this petty mage...ANYTHING to stop the pain...
His whole form trembled in bitter/sweet pleasure at being free to finally channel more power than he limited himself to around the others...now was the time to use it all. He disregarded incantations...he never had needed them. He looked to the clouds once more and then to the Dread, the last of the conjured bolts of lightning leaving its mark. He had only seconds to act...
The Dread was beyond anger that this petty mortal could DARE hurt it so dearly...is had an answer to that. It snarled in rage as it struck aside the shield with a massive magic blast. Then with bitter justice sent all the power of those lightning bolts back at the dragon in one massive, retina searing blast of lightning.
He clutched his head, moaning in pain as part of his store of ColdFire was simply crushed, then gasped at the blast heading toward him...to late...it slammed into him as he hurried through a weaving of mage energies, drawing most of the damage off, but still, after the blast ended his whole body was charred and smoking. He was far from dead, but the PAIN...He was tired of this...He rose up into the air, his wings perfectly still, lightning arching down from the clouds to strike his charred scaled, but not doing damage this time, mearly leaving his whole form crackling with raw power as he glared at the Dread and said the one word that would let it knw its doom was at hand..."Luminare"
The hollow voice sounded fearful as it managed, "But that is..." then the expanding globe of bluish light struck it...and kept going...the obsidian dragon surrounded by an expanding ring of power, his arms outstretched to his side as the globe kept expanding, eating through the portal as well, shattering it just as it had the Dread, shattering the stone of the mountain as well...Then if flicked out and the small form of an even more charred dragon dropped to the mountain top...which was a great deal lower than it had been.
A soft groan came from the charred form of the survivor of the great battle on the mountain as he slowly pulled himself up and began to crawl away, towards the body of one of his few friends, hoping he was not to late and that he still had enought strenght left for one last spell. He crawled over and slumped against the poor crystal dragon, knowing already that he had failed his friend. He sobbed softly as he lay his head down on his friends cold chest and said, "Does it always have to hurt?" He lay there for a long time, waiting for his body to heal enought so he could teleport home. It would be weeks before he could walk...and even longer before he had the power to manage the make-over to hid the damage this had done...at least untill it healed. He was just so tired of hiding...but it must be done. He sighed softly as he said, "goodbye my dear friend...may ye walk in the light...as soom never shall. Go in peace." with that he spoke the soft words that would whirl him home across the void...
